Guest artists must submit their work to the screening committee for approval. Forms are available for guest artists. 2. The position of guest artist is not open to past gallery members. 3. The guest artist will pay a 35% commission on any art work sold at the gallery. 4. The area designed for two-dimensional art will be on the center of the north wall of the gallery and three-dimensional work in the center of the gallery. 5. As with the active members of the gallery, Art Works and EAAI assume no liability for the art work exhibited. 6. The guest artist will be informed of dates for hanging and/or displaying and pickup. There will be a $25 charge daily for storage of art not picked up on designated date. 7. Although not required, the artist will be encouraged to attend the opening reception of the exhibit. If the artist is willing and interested, a time may be arranged for a talk about his/her work. 8. Artists may be asked to apply for a guest exhibit by any exhibiting artist of EAAI. The artist will be asked to provide pictures and a statement for publicity. East Alabama Artists, Inc. Screening Committee Guidelines CATEGORIES OF ART TO BE ACCEPTED FOR EXHIBITION: * Quality original work in any medium, including fine original crafts, photography, graphic design and limited edition hand-pulled prints in any medium. * Original, digitally manipulated prints such as Iris prints on high quality paper. CATEGORIES OF ART WHICH WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR EXHIBITION: * Instructor assisted work. * Any work from kits or commercil patterns. * Any work from non-original sources, such as published photographs and other copyrighted material. * Mass produced photo-offset lithographic prints, reproductions of drawings and paintings, or original drawings and paintings from which reproductions have been produced. SCREENING OF ART WORKS PRESENTED FOR CONSIDERATION: Artists presenting their work for review by the Screening Committee should submit a minimum of six high-quality slides, photographs or original work together with the artist's registry. Slides and photographs should be labeled with the artist's name, title, medium, size, orientation, and desired selling price. The screening committee will meet monthly and artists will be notified of the decision of the committee by letter. All new gallery members must meet and continue to abide by the standards established by the Screening Committee. Charter members are not required to undergo an initial screening, but all members are expected to abide by the standards. A work which is deemed to be in violation of established gallery standards or which is not a fit in the current gallery exhibition may be excluded by vote of the Screening Committee. PRESENTATION: All works must be presented in a professional manner and must be ready for hanging as specified by the Gallery Committee. East Alabama Artists, Inc. Gallery Policies 1. The gallery will show one-of-a-kind original art. Works will not be accepted which have been produced from published photographs or other copyrighted sources. Furthermore, no copies or commercially reproduced prints, originals from which prints have been produced, work produced from a commercial pattern or kit, or instructor assisted work, will be accepted. 2. Art must be presented in a professional manner. Frames and mats should compliment the paintings, photographs, prints, etc., and be in good condition with screw eyes and firm, taut wires, ready to hang. Gallery wrapped canvases will be accepted if they are attractively presented with properly affixed hanging wires. Three-dimensional works, which require wall space to display, will be governed by the guidelines set forth for paintings. 3. For gallery purposes, the outside dimensions of the frame will be considered the size of the work. 4. & 5. These policies will address the space value system for two-dimensional space to be determined later. The gallery committee will make every effort to display each artist's work equally. Three-dimensional surplus may be kept in storage in the stock area of the gallery and will be displayed as space and/or sales permit. Two- dimensional surplus will be kept in the holding racks. Each artist may bring up to four portfolio pieces (unframed works on paper) to be placed in art bins. Works for the bins must be backed with a stiff material to avoid bending and must be wrapped with acetate or shrink-wrap. 6. This policy will address the space value system for three-dimensional works to be determined later: Very small three-dimensional works will only be accepted if the artist furnishes an appropriate display. Because space may be limited, such displays will require prior approval of the gallery committee. NOTE: Very small items are especially susceptible to theft. See policy #12. 7. Once merchandise is placed in inventory, it will remain until the next scheduled "changeover." This period will never exceed three months. Specific dates will be announced. It is important that each artist keep a good calendar of his or her art activities so that only work which has not been committed elsewhere will be placed in the gallery. Gallery Policies Page 2 of 2 Copied Rev. 03/01 At "changeover," the artist may change ANY or ALL of his/her inventory. Works placed in inventory may go through two consecutive "changeover" periods (6 months) in the gallery exhibit. After two consecutive "changeover" periods, these works will be replaced with new inventory. Members may select some of their outgoing two-dimensional works to be exhibited in the painting rack through one more "changeover" period (3 months), but please remember this space is limited. As sales are made, the artist will be notified so that inventory may be replaced. 8. The gallery commission will be 15% on sales in the gallery. A commission of 15% is payable to the gallery by the artist on any sales initiated by the gallery on behalf of a customer. Options will be offered to the artists for a specified discount to the trade. This option clause will be part of the contract form provided by the gallery to the artists. 9. The gallery does not require exclusivity, but consistency in pricing is encouraged. DO NOT undersell the gallery, privately or in other galleries or shows. 10. Exhibiting working members will work in the gallery. In the event a member cannot work when scheduled, he/she must find another member substitute. A member who has health problems and cannot work the required hours of all working members, may go to non-working status and pay the non-working fee. Should said member choose not to go to non-working status and pay the fee, they are to remove their work from the gallery and go on leave of absence. When their health improves, so they can work the gallery hours, they may return their work to the gallery. 11. Each artist will label each piece of work using the labels provided by the gallery. The label will state the artist's name, number of the piece, medium, title and price. 12. The gallery assumes NO responsibility for loss or damage due to any cause, including but not limited to fire, water, theft or breakage. It is the responsibility of the individual artist to insure his or her work. 13. The gallery committee reserves the right to refuse to display anything deemed objectionable. Such action will be reported to and reviewed by the Board of Directors. Amended 2/04 East Alabama Artists, Inc.
